Rhode Island

The smallest U.S. state offers 400 miles of shoreline and a culture of sailing and seafood. Newport and Jamestown are hubs for sailing excursions, and “stuffies”—a quahog (clam) filled with chopped clams, breadcrumbs, and herbs— and lobster rolls are beloved by locals and tourists alike. Visit Newport for its Folk and Jazz festivals and Gilded Age mansions, soak up the college town vibes and tuck into grilled pizza in Providence (invented at Il Forno in 1980), and take a dip at one of the many beaches that hug the coast, like Third Beach in Middletown and Vial Beach on Block Island.
