Anyone with a sweet tooth should be sure to take a tour of the Garoto Chocolate Factory, one of the most popular destinations in Vitória. Founded by a German immigrant in 1929, it’s now one of the 10 largest chocolate factories in the world and is known for candy boxes, Easter eggs and cooking chocolate exported to more than 50 countries. During the tour—which requires advance reservations through the Garoto website—you can see the chocolate-making process in detail, including the various machines that assemble, wrap and box the chocolates. Best of all, you can eat as much chocolate as you want while on the tour. Be sure to wear long pants and a shirt with sleeves, but no high heels. Children must be seven or older to join the tour.
