A vibrant seaside town built around the waters of East Falkland’s Stanley Harbour, Stanley is a distinctly British capital. Early settlers found that the local stone was difficult to work with, so they imported from England lightweight, inexpensive construction materials like the colored corrugated-iron roofs that sit atop the painted wooden houses. Some noteworthy edifices include Government House—the private residence of the governor—as well as the Post Office, the Court & Council Chamber and the Philatelic Bureau.
