Just outside the Lake Gardens is the National Museum, home to Malaysia’s most comprehensive collection of historical objects. Malay royal palaces inspired the museum’s exterior design, but it doesn’t feel imposing. Exhibited within the four galleries are antiquities from the Bronze and Neolithic Ages, ancient weapons, ceramic pieces, handicrafts and traditional costumes. Not to be missed is the handsome former residence of a onetime sultan: The timber structure, which stands on stilts, dates back to 1884.
