Lifou has several vanilla plantations that can be toured for a glimpse of how these sweetly scented beans—the pods of vanilla orchids—are cultivated, processed and exported all around the world. Depending on the season, visitors can also participate in the pollination of vanilla orchids and take a tour around the farm. On some tours, it’s possible to sample vanilla-infused drinks like tea and coffee and to buy beans and other vanilla-related products.
