Private Palapas at Hotel Escondido
The thoughtful decor and design of the individual palapas (with private plunge pools!) at this very chic hotel will make you want to redecorate your home to match. For the outdoorsy types, the area has plenty of surfing and exploring, but I barely wanted to leave this beachside paradise.
Sunsets on the Beach
Do not miss a single sunset over the coast of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. The best place to watch them? From a hammock perfectly situated on the beach at Hotel Escondido. Preferably with a Mezcal Cocktail Escondido in hand, made by Antonio, our favorite Hotel Escondido staffer! He even showed us the turtle eggs on the beach and told us all about how and when they hatch. Unfortunately we left before they did hatch, but many guests will get to see it throughout the season.
A Fascinating Landscape
While the main stretch of Puerto Escondido is built around a picturesque bay with a vibrant beach, just a short drive outside of the city you’ll find a rustic and relaxed environment surrounded by a fascinating landscape. In our traditional palapa at Hotel Escondido, we woke up to the sounds of the ocean on our left, and on our right, saw long stretches of peaceful green cacti and mountains behind them.
Hammock Siestas
Individual hammocks with each private palapa at Hotel Escondido are perfect for a sun-fueled siesta. Order a cocktail, read a book, or watch the sunset right in front of you over the Pacific Ocean. Or do all three at once.
Chocolate Oaxaqueno at Hotel Escondido
A giant bowl of Chocolate Oaxaqueno made my morning. (So did the Huevos Escondido covered with mole.) Server Antonio gave us menu recommendations every morning (and evening), which we followed religiously, and even generously offered to help us source local pottery at the Mercado Bonito Juarez when we couldn’t find what we wanted. And hotel manager, Mariano, had an answer for every question we had. The staff at Hotel Escondido goes above and beyond.
