Spend a day visiting members of a local Emberá tribe at their village in Chagres National Park. Getting there requires an upriver ride in a traditional dugout canoe. Once you arrive, the villagers offer a presentation about their history, culture and music, along with lessons on how they use indigenous plants medicinally and in the making of handicrafts. The villagers then serve a lunch of fish and plantains and provide an assortment of handmade items for sale, including wooden carvings and woven baskets.
