“One of the biggest parks in Barcelona, Parc de la Cuitadella is situated near the port and for years was one of the city’s only green spaces. Today it is home to a zoo, a lake, a lovely fountain, as well as a few museums. This is also the home of the Catalan Parliament, which is housed in a beautiful early 18th-century building.” —Primavera music founder Pablo Soler on the El Bron neighborhood. Spend a relaxing afternoon at Barcelona’s original green space, Ciutadella Park.
Mandatory stops in the Park include the Parliament of Catalonia, an 18th century Citadel, and Josep Fontserè’s Cascada waterfall fountain. Rent a paddleboat and float around the park’s smallish but charming lake. Observe the animal kingdom at play in Barcelona’s Zoo. Be sure to get a few shots of the Zoology Museum’s striking modernista façade designed by Doménech i Montaner for the 1888 Universal Exposition and the massive whale skeleton hung from the ceiling inside.
