When I go to Stuart for the day with my husband or my sister, I enjoy shopping, lunch, and then a walk along the river walk. The river walk runs along the edge of town that lies on the banks of the St. Lucie River. The views are beautiful. I see boats, fish, birds, the river, and the amazing structure of the new Roosevelt Bridge. If you are in Stuart for dinner or a show at the Lyric Theater, don’t miss the chance to see the Roosevelt Bridge at night. It is lit up and if you walk the river walk you can walk right up to this structure and view the underside that just glows in the dark. It is quite a beautiful sight. If you enjoy taking pictures while traveling, don’t forget the camera.

The Sailfish Capital of the World
Stuart, Florida is known as “The Sailfish Capital of the World” because of the large number of sailfish in the ocean waters in the Stuart area. Stuart was recognized as a town in Palm Beach County in 1914. In 1925, it was designated a city in the newly created Martin County. Downtown Stuart is located west of the Hutchinson Island area of Stuart. By the late 60’s downtown Stuart was neglected but in the late 80’s the residents began a revival of the city. Happily, the little Florida town feel was the aim of the city planners and the residents. The renewal of the city of Stuart has been a huge success. There are many great restaurants, upscale and unusual shops, quite a few historic sites, and a couple of charming B & B’s. I enjoy walking through the streets and then shopping. I usually stop at a restaurant for lunch. The river walk along the St. Lucie River and under the bridge is always a treat for me. The Stuart Heritage Museum is also on my list of places to enjoy when I visit downtown Stuart. You will enjoy this really great little city.
