Accessible from Uturoa, this steep, gravelly trail takes about an hour to climb up (and 30 minutes to descend). To find the trailhead, make a left at the stop sign just past the post office on the main road, and then bear right and look for signs for Mount Tapioi. Pack water and a hat—and if you’re moderately fit you’ll get into an aerobic zone that culminates in a view of the patchwork lagoon, Tahaa and, on a clear day, Bora-Bora.
