A Lyon institution, Bernachon was one of France’s first boutique chocolate-makers. More than a chocolatier who makes bonbons or other sweets, Bernachon crafts the chocolate itself and is thus of particular interest to cocoa connoisseurs. The shop’s single-origin bars are exemplary, but its rich, ganache-filled confections are divine, as are its pastries. For something truly exquisite, try the President, a signature cherry sponge cake filled with hazelnut ganache and sprinkled with chocolate shavings that was created in partnership with legendary chef Paul Bocuse for French president Valéry Giscard d’Estaing.
