On a balmy night in Barcelona, you’ll join your small group of fellow AFAR Sailings guests at an exclusive pre-cruise welcome cocktail reception in the heart of the city. It’s an exciting kick-off for the weeklong adventure that includes private excursions, dinners, and tours alongside AFAR’s very own tastemaker, Executive Vice President/Chief Revenue Officer Ellen Asmodeo-Giglio. Earlier that day you’ll have had time to visit some of the works by the city’s most famous architect, Antoni Gaudí—the Park Güell, his houses, and La Sagrada Familia, a soaring, and still unfinished, church—as well as savored the city’s culinary highlights at La Boqueria market or one of the many tapas bars.
The French Riviera
After calling at Sète, a quiet fishing village and seaside resort that has been nicknamed the Venice of the Languedoc, we sail for Saint-Tropez. Now a playground of the rich and famous, Saint-Tropez was long known for its winding streets and squares where locals play petanque. Fortunately, those same streets look very similar today, even while they are now also lined with designer boutiques and galleries. Silver Shadow doesn’t depart until 11:30 p.m., giving you time to enjoy cocktails or an alfresco dinner at one of the town’s open-air cafés before saying au revoir.
The Tuscan Coast
After stopping on Corsica’s wild shores, we call at Livorno. This port may not be as famous as some of Tuscany’s other cities, but it has a long and colorful history. Thanks to the Medicis, who long ruled it, the city has a number of stately Renaissance buildings. You can also use it as a base to explore some of Tuscany’s other famous sites—Lucca, still ringed by its city walls; Pisa, with its basilica and Leaning Tower; and Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance and home to the Uffizi Gallery. You’ll attend a private lunch featuring a special guest speaker at one of the city’s top restaurants.
Beautiful Amalfi
From Naples, we visit the stunning Amalfi Coast on AFAR’s exclusive private yacht tour. Swim (right off the yacht) in the pristine waters just feet from Amalfi’s cliffs, enjoy an authentic lunch at the award-winning Hotel Santa Caterina, and visit the legendary “vertical village” of Positano.
Throughout your cruise, you’ll enjoy the superlative Silversea experience with the very best accommodations and finest amenities including spacious suites, butler service, and signature Relais & Châteaux culinary selections. As a guest of AFAR Sailings, you’ll also enjoy special programming and amenities both in ports and at sea, as well as opportunities to explore the region’s art, architecture, and history on private tours.
Roman Holiday
The cruise will end in the Eternal City, Rome, where the city’s cultural and culinary highlights are waiting to be explored. Whether a tour of the Vatican Museum, a stroll through colorful neighborhoods like Celio or Trastevere, or enjoying a gelato on one of the city’s piazzas and watching the world go by sounds the most appealing, the AFAR Sailings Concierge can make all the arrangements for a post-sailing extension customized around your interests. From hotels to restaurant reservations, as well as your flights to and from Europe, your concierge is ready to handle all the logistics before and after your cruise.
