I’m a writer based in New York. My latest book, Glossy, the inside story of Emily Weiss’s Glossier, is out July 2023.

I write the Me Time column for The New York Times Style section, which is about first-person fitness/beauty/wellness experiences, and have contributed to The New Yorker, The Guardian, Vanity Fair, New York Magazine, and Vogue among many, many other places.

I grew up in Northern California in the kind of family that shopped for organic produce and drank fresh-squeezed juices and green smoothies decades before that was considered chic. (In fact I dreamt of living in the kind of home that kept Kudos bars on hand.) Maybe because of that, I have always been drawn to the promises of self-improvement and also the way it seems impossible. I am often the one at the new moon ritual/yogilates class/laughing meditation that wishes I was having a life-changing experience.

My goal is to be more like my bulldog Joan who sleeps 22 hours a day.
